Got up in the morning and it was still raining, so drove into the park as far as we could. Did not spot any wildlife. We also checked into staying in the Denali campground and found to our surprise that there were many sites we could fit into.
We were lucky in our last trip and saw Denali clearly so we still felt fortunate. We also saw a lot of Moose and Caribou. A tourist we talked to who took the back country tour we took years ago said the Bears were eating the moose calves and the moose population had declined.
We drove on to Fairbanks which we did not spend time in, but had seen the Museum of the North before and highly recommend it. Also visited Musk Ox and took a riverboat tour.
On our way to Delta Junction past Fairbanks it was cool and rainy and there in a pond was a female Moose..as I photo'd her , out popped her baby from the woods. They seemed unafraid we were there and just went about their business eating in the pond.
Delta Junction marks the official end of the Alaska Highway and tourists were lined up for the last mile photo. I saw pictures in the milepost indicating great scenery in the area but the rain and clouds were covering up the mountains.
We had not spotted a bull moose in the wild on the trip and hoped to see one on the trip home. We had seen one in the wildlife reserve south of Anchorage but somehow it's not the same.
