Day 7 Dawson Creek Mile 0 Photo and on to Pink Mountain

We rolled into Dawson Creek a little stressed from the up and down grades with a lot of curves. We stopped in the Walmart for some groceries and then went to the sign that officially starts mile 0 of the Alaska Highway. The first 613 miles are in British Columbia until near Watson Lake where it becomes the  Yukon Territory for 577 miles. At mile 1221.8 you cross into Alaska and the end is marked officially at Delta Junction, Alaska.

We continued onto Pink Mountain. Pink Mountain is an interesting area where a lot of mobile trailer camps and dormitory like buildings are set up for work crews.  Along this stretch you see beautiful landscape dotted with these work camps, drilling rigs and wells and signs for poisonous gas and warnings to keep out.  We learned from talking to a Canadian truck driver that they will soon be moving these crews to North Dakota.

We saw the marker of the most dangerous hill (retired now) and parts of the hill called Suicide Hill "Prepare to meet your Maker" slogan.

We could not find a pullout along this stretch (maybe because of the poisonous gas and keep out signs) and the one RV park would not fit us (We were too large).  We ate at a hotel / restaurant where they catered to the work crews and had a great meal.  We were too tired to go on and asked if we could park in their parking lot for the night and they said yes without hesitation. We made note to be sure and stop before or after this stretch of highway on our return.

Next morning we left early and saw black bear, grizzly bear (no photo) and moose (no photo) and one caribou(photo)

We saw Deere and CAT construction machines grazing together as well.

.  We spoke to a motorcyclist who was pretty tickled about the moose he had to stop for.  He just waited and said ok moose...now what are you going to do?
